Remembering is a really big deal!
For individuals, we have Hebrews 2:1
In Hebrews chapter 2 verse 1 it is written: Therefore, we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
Drift away from what? Answer: Revelations about our own personal needy state, about the Lord Jesus, about all that He's done for us because of His great love for us, about what He will continue to do for us, and what He expects of us! Yes, it's easy to forget, with lots of distractions around us.
So, if a new idea, or a new insight comes to us perhaps through the Scriptures, the first thing we need to do is remember it! For many people, this means writing it down. Now that might be inconvenient at the moment. Nevertheless, somehow, we must not totally rely on our own memory, for this fails us so often. I know by personal experience, alas!
More than once I received an insight and acknowledged it as a good idea but let it go, thinking I'll get to it later, but never did because I forgot. One time it was right before my afternoon nap and when I woke up from the nap, I had no idea what the idea was. Alas!
I have gotten in trouble for forgetting something important that somebody in authority told me on the job!
This morning I remembered what was written in Joshua chapter 4 which talks about the Hebrews grabbing 12 stones out of the Jordan River and using them to make a monument, which is also called a cairn. (I know this word because my grandson went to Cairn University in Eastern PA.)
At the end of Joshua chapter 4, it is written:20 And those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal. 21 Then he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel crossed over this Jordan on dry land’; 23 for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over, 24 that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”
Again, remembering is a really big deal!! It's really important, and one of the reasons I'm writing this is to tell myself, "Don't Forget!"
All scripture here is from the NKJV.
