How much does God love us? How much does He love His children?
Jesus told a story, a parable, that answers this question definitively: The Parable of the Prodigal Son, which is found in Luke chapter 15 verses 11-31. When the prodigal son left his father and his father's household with his share of the inheritance, pretty soon he realized this was a big mistake, for he had wasted his inheritance on partying and prostitutes. Now what? Get a job of course, but he could only get the worst of the worst jobs! And he was hungry! So, he humbled himself and went home to Dad. There was plenty of food there. His plan was to beg for a job as a servant.
But the father would have none of it! He was the first one out on the road welcoming his son back home, as A Son, not as a servant!
Parents and grandparents have a head start on understanding this response, because they have children, too. Parents and grandparents love their children irrationally, for it's a matter of the heart, not the head! That's the way Father God loves His children. He's a good, good Father!
Again, it's irrational! It's a matter of the heart, not the head! And I am very, very glad this is so!
